LANTHANUM NITRATE HYDRATE

It is hygroscopic and oxidizing. It is a hazardous chemical. People who inhale the smoke of lanthanum and its compounds may experience symptoms such as headache and nausea, and in severe cases, it may lead to death. Because lanthanum nitrate is combustible, it is an explosive product.
It is obtained by dissolving lanthanum oxide or lanthanum hydroxide in a dilute nitric acid solution, evaporating it in a water bath and then crystallizing it. It is used to make preservatives, fluorescent powders, optical glass, gas lampshades, and chemical reagents.
