Potassium Bitartrate
Potassium hydrogen tartrate is the acid salt of potassium tartrate. It is usually a colorless to white orthorhombic crystalline powder. Its solubility in water varies with temperature. It is insoluble in ethanol and acetic acid, but easily soluble in inorganic acids. It is a byproduct of winemaking and is called tartar powder in the food industry. It is used as an additive, leavening agent, reducing agent and buffering agent.
Uses
Potassium hydrogen tartrate can be used as an analytical reagent, developer, reducing agent, bacterial inhibitor, and is used in the manufacture of baking powder, diuretics and laxatives, and is used in the manufacture of tartrate.
