The aqueous solution is acidic and insoluble in ethanol and ether. It is very stable in the air. It is easily affected by alkali and oxidants, and cannot coexist with alkalis and oxidants. The main uses of hydrazine sulfate are for the gravimetric determination of nickel, cobalt, and cadmium, the purification of rare metals, the separation of polonium and tellurium, and the precipitation of chlorates, hypochlorites, and carboxyl compounds. It is also used to make isoniazid, furazolidone, hydrazine, anhydrous hydrazine, etc. It is also used as a reducing agent, pesticide, and sterilant. Hydrazine sulfate is a nutritional supplement in the United States to combat the symptoms of anorexia and weight loss in cancer patients.
