Cranberry P.E
Applications:Bilberry Extract is a type of amorphous powder (USP32-NF27) extracted from mature bilberry berries or their processing residues. Bilberry extract contains a large amount of anthocyanins (UV-Vis standard is greater than 25%; HPLC standard is greater than 36%), as well as some polysaccharides, pectin, tannins, arbutin, vitamin C and B vitamins. Anthocyanins are a general term for a class of substances formed by the combination of anthocyanins and sugars. Anthocyanins have biological activities such as anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, blood lipid regulation and improvement of insulin resistance. Anthocyanins can show rich and bright colors under certain conditions, so they can be used as a food additive. At the same time, anthocyanins are also a strong antioxidant and free radical scavenger, so they can be used as ingredients for dietary supplements and raw materials in the pharmaceutical industry.
1. Food additives: Bilberry extract is a food colorant with good color quality and wide color gamut. It can show different colors in acidic and weakly alkaline environments and can be added to foods of different styles. In addition, the United Nations FAO/WHO Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives believes that anthocyanins are “extremely low in toxicity” based on the existing Chemicalbook toxicology data and has included them in the natural pigment food additives (E163). Anthocyanin extracts (including bilberry extracts) are also listed by the U.S. FDA as food additives that do not require certification and are allowed to be used in beverages, dairy products and cakes.
2. Functional food: Uncontrolled oxidation reaction and free radical attack are one of the root causes of human aging and pathology, and the large amount of phenolic hydroxyl contained in anthocyanin molecules can strongly fight against uncontrolled oxidation and free radical attack in the body, slowing down or inhibiting the aging and pathology of the human body. Therefore, bilberry extract can be used as a functional ingredient of functional food, and can also be directly made into dietary supplements. In addition, anthocyanin also has the effect of improving people’s vision at night, that is, dark vision.
3. Pharmaceutical industry: Currently, many experiments have shown that anthocyanins have antioxidant effects on mammalian cells, induce cancer cell apoptosis, inhibit their growth, and inhibit inflammatory responses. Although anthocyanins are highly water-soluble substances, experiments have confirmed that the presence of anthocyanin prototypes can be detected in the cell chemical book, indicating that anthocyanins can be absorbed by cells through cell membranes, which greatly facilitates the absorption and metabolism of anthocyanins and also provides great convenience for the application of anthocyanins in the pharmaceutical industry.
