Praseodymium-neodymium, metal Pr-Nd, is a silver-gray metal ingot. The total amount of rare earth is more than 99%. The neodymium content of the metal is about 75% and the praseodymium content is about 25%, hence the name. Metal praseodymium-neodymium is easily oxidized in the air. It is a low-toxic substance, and its toxicity is equivalent to that of iron. Rare earths are almost completely hydrolyzed in animals to form colloids and precipitates of hydroxides, so they are not easily absorbed. They can be stored for a long time if properly stored in a dry environment.
Praseodymium-neodymium alloy is the main raw material for the production of high-performance NdFeB permanent magnet materials. It accounts for about 27% of the cost of NdFeB permanent magnet materials. Praseodymium-neodymium oxide is used for deep processing and glass, ceramics, magnetic materials, etc. Dysprosium-iron alloy is mainly used for NdFeB permanent magnet materials, manufacturing giant magnetostrictive alloys, optical magnetic recording materials, nuclear fuel diluents, etc.
The price of praseodymium-neodymium alloy has been rising since 2009, especially in 2011 when the price suddenly increased several times. The reason is that the state has restricted the mining of rare earths. With the support of the state, upstream enterprises have increased industry integration, and the phenomenon of random mining and low-price export has been curbed, and the supply has been greatly reduced. It is understood that the price of this material has not yet reached the cost of mining and producing similar products abroad, and it is expected that there will still be room for increase in the future.
